Oro Grande

“Be careful of the open mind shafts, you could fall in and ruin your day.”

Rated: 2-4

  • Trail Length: Varies
  • Elevation: From 3996 to 4590 feet
  • Terrain Type: Sandy bottom arroyos, gravel roads, and rocky hill climbs
  • Major Obstacles: The washed out areas and some of the hill climbs will present the most challenge
  • Technical Ability: Beginner
  • Vehicle Recommendations: Stock 4×4 or SxS
  • Elevated Hazard: Summer heat, washed out roads
  • Comment: Mostly easy trails, great place for SxSs or 4X4s.  There are few sites to see while you’re out there.  The tin can building, dynamite shack,  the cross and grave yard, there are also some petroglyphs out there.  Most of the area is rough dirt roads but you can venture into a few arroyos for more of a challenge. There has been a lot of erosion so be careful, you  may have to scout out a new path to get around some areas. If you really want a challenge head over to Carnage Canyon which is a rated 6 trail.
