Whiplash Trail

“Good distance to travel to get here, but you won’t be disappointed if you’re looking for harder stuff to play on.”
-Brian
Rated: 7
- Trail Length: 19.3 miles round trip
- Elevation: From 4463 to 5080 feet
- Terrain Type: Sandy bottom arroyo with some ledges and rocks
- Major Obstacles: Large 3′ ledges, large rock garden up hill on the exit
- Technical Ability: Advanced
- Vehicle Recommendations: At least 35″ tires, two lockers, enhanced suspension with extra ground clearance, working winch, body armor.
- Elevated Hazard: Large ledges making some climbs off camber, location; it’s out there a ways.
- Comment: Whiplash trail, is further up Tecolote Canyon and this is were the fun begins. There are large rocks and ledges to be concurred. One area might be a bit much for a full bodied rig, it offered a good challenge for the buggy we had with us that day. You can get to Whiplash via Coyote Canyon then into Tecolote Canyon, just make the right hand turn before you drop into Coyote Canyon. Go down the road about a mile and when you drop into a large open arroyo turn left and head north east, you are in Tecolote Canyon. As you go further into the canyon you will start running into the harder stuff. See video and pics.
General Information:
- This trail is located in Coyote Canyon, just north of Tularosa.
