  • Trail Length: 3 mile in from West Side Road
  • Elevation: 7664 to 8095 feet
  • Terrain Type: Dirt Road, Rutted and rocky trail
  • Major Obstacles: The optional rout to the left towards the end of the trail
  • Technical Ability: Beginner to Novice
  • Vehicle Recommendations: Stock 4×4 or SxS
  • Elevated Hazard: The difficult part at the end of the trail on the optional route to the left down the hill
  • Comment: Burleson Ridge is an easy 1 rated route that has an optional more difficult 4-5 rated route at the end.  There is a sign where Burleson Ridge Road cuts off from the West Side Road.   Follow the road in and bare left at the Long Ridge gate to the old Army installation on the high point of Burleson Ridge.  All the buildings are gone now. It’s an easy route with the same vehicle requirements as the West Side Road.  The more difficult optional route begins at the white gate to the old Army installation and will take you down to the cliff edges above the basin.  Vehicles with FWD and extra ground clearance required.  Take the dirt road to the left just before the gate.  You’ll encounter large boulders to navigate or drive over, rough rocky stretches, ruts, and a very steep loose rocky descent section.  FWD is required to get back up, lockers a plus.  Side by sides can make it.  There is an optional destination that follows a ridge to the north but has some off camber and rocky steps.  Both routes have scenic sections and will take you to cliff edges but the first one is best for views of the basin and cliffs.  Deer and elk have been seen.
