“This one is not for ATVs.”

-Brian

Rated: 5-6

  • Trail Length: 11 miles approximately
  • Elevation: 4493 to 4925
  • Terrain Type: Sandy bottom arroyo, some water possible, ledges, rocks
  • Obstacles: Ledges 3+ feet tall
  • Technical Ability: Novice with spotter
  • Vehicle Recommendation: 35″ tires, lifted suspension, at least one traction device, good approach angle. The better equipped you are, the less you’ll struggle
  • Elevated Hazard: Flooding during Monsoon season as with all trails that are in the arroyo.
  • Comment:  This trail is not too hard, but the last ledge can be a challenge, this is why it’s a 5-6 rating.  We have taken SxSs up it, but they did have to take a strap on the last ledge.  Not recommended for ATVs.

General Information:

  • This trail is located in Coyote Canyon, just north of Tularosa.
  • Meet up location is in the empty lot next to Dollar General at the Y intersection of highway 54 and 70.
  • There is an air-down and parking area on the side of the highway 54 before you get to the overpass.
  • Once you exit the arroyo you’ll follow a trail out to Coyote Canyon, the trail is not well defined, it may take a little searching for as it doesn’t get used much.
  • You also can go thru articulation alley before you drop into the arroyo, or take the by-pass.
