Club Vehicle Requirements and Trail Rules

VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS:

A. All vehicles should be registered and insured to meet NM state requirements. Registration and insurance is the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

B. Vehicles must have seat belts for each passenger riding in the vehicle.

C. Each vehicle must have a roll cage or factory roll protection hard top to protect passengers in case of a roll over.

D. Each vehicle shall be in safe mechanical operating order.

E. A spare tire within two inches of diameter of the vehicle tires, is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for every vehicle on the trail.

F. Front and rear tow/recovery points are highly recommended, DO NOT USE a ball hitch to pull someone out. Ball hitches can break and become lethal projectiles.

G. Communications device GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) or FRS (Family Radio Service) radios are also HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all vehicles on the trail. Members are responsible for obtaining any necessary licenses for their communications device.

H. Each vehicle shall be a self sufficient unit. The following items are highly recommended:

❖ Fire extinguisher
❖ Cell Phone

I. Other recommended items are:

❖ Spill Kit
❖ Flashlight
❖ Jumper cables
❖ Extra water and food
❖ Compass or GPS device
❖ Winch that works
❖ Tow straps
❖ Tools
❖ Spare parts

TRAIL RUN RULES AND ETIQUETTE:

A. All members, including Club Officers, are responsible to the direction of the Trail Leader and his appointed assistants for the entire trail run. At no time has any member the right to demand an unscheduled stop or change of route or plan. No provision is to be made to permit any member to join an event at any location or time other than the location and time decided upon for the event if such provision causes delay, stop, or any change in route.

B. All Trail Runs must be conducted in a safe orderly manner. Any trail runs held on private property should have property owner permission and may be subject to liability releases.

C. The Trail Leader will appoint an assistant to provide required help such as tail gunner. The tail gunner will be the last vehicle in the caravan and will insure all gates that are opened are closed after passing through them. The Trail Lead and Tail Gunner should have working radios so they can communicate on the trail. While riding make sure you can see the vehicle behind you. If you lose site of the vehicle behind you stop and let the caravan know via radio you have stopped. Lend a hand to those in need of help.

D. Vehicle break downs on the trail will happen. The trail leader will coordinate with the vehicle owner/driver and determine the best course of action. If repairs can be made on the trail then this should take place, if repairs cannot be made in a reasonable amount of time then every attempt should be made to tow the vehicle off the trail. No vehicle should be left on the trail overnight unless absolutely necessary. All cost for repairs or recovery is the sole responsibility of the vehicle owner/driver. No one should be left alone with a disabled vehicle.

E. Members must take full responsibility for their guest. All occupants in a moving vehicle must wear seat belts. Vehicles may be inspected by the trip leader or designee to ensure its safeness and may be disqualified to participate if found to be mechanically unsafe. Members and guests on the trail run shall abide by all laws of the State of New Mexico applicable to motorized vehicles, recognizing that some laws also apply to off-highway travel on public lands.

F. Members and guests shall abide by the TREAD LIGHTLY concept, so as to protect our natural resources. Stay on the trail to all extent possible. Do not litter, if you pack it in pack it out.

G. Firearms are allowed to be taken on trips by members. Firearm safety is up to the individual and must be adhered to at all times when in possession of a fire arm. Shooting may take place at designated times and locations as determined by the Trail Leader. Careless firearm handling will not be tolerated.

H. Consumption of alcoholic beverages or intoxicating substances during club trail runs is frowned upon. All state laws and regulations regarding alcohol or intoxicating substances and driving on public roads should be adhered too. DMFWDC does not condone the use of these substances during any club outings on or off-road.

I. Pets accompanying their owners or guest must be under the control of their owner at all times. Animals that are repeatedly a safety issue will be dealt with on an individual basis.

J. No member or guest under the age of 18 will be permitted to drive in any event without the written permission of a parent or guardian and all drives under the age of 18 should adhere to the NM State law on age restrictions. It is the responsibility of the parent or guarding to see that the age restriction requirements are met.

K. All members and guest taking part in the trail ride are required to read and sign the Waiver and Release of Liability Document and the Video Release Form, if minors are present the parent or guardian must sign the Parent/Guardian Waiver for Minors, each minor present will require an individual form be signed.

L. Most of all have fun and be safe. If in doubt, check with the trail leader or other persons assisting on the trail run.

M. As a reminder trail ratings are subjective so if you have any doubts about the trail difficulty ask the trail lead or someone who has been on the trail before if your vehicle can traverse the trail safely.
