Rated: 6

  • Trail Length: About 6 miles round trip depending on the route you take to get into and out of the canyon
  • Elevation: From 4328 to 4742 feet
  • Terrain Type: Sandy bottom arroyo with large rocks, rock-slab climbs, and steep hills with loose rock
  • Major Obstacles: Rock climbs
  • Technical Ability: Experienced
  • Vehicle Recommendations: Modified vehicle with 35″ tires and two traction devices
  • Elevated Hazard: Summer heat, the flies can be terrible out there
  • Comment: Carnage Canyon is located in the Oro Grande mining area, this is a moderate hard trail.  There are a few spots to play around on and a few hill climbs.  The ledges and climbs are not super hard but finding the line may take a couple of tries if you haven’t done them before. The trail isn’t that long but if you go in unprepared it could take you a little while to get thru.
