“You said the trail is where, I don’t see it.”

Rated: 7

  • Trail Length: less than a 1/4 mile from bottom to top
  • Elevation: From 4760 to 4875 feet
  • Terrain Type: Loose shale rock
  • Major Obstacles: The whole trail
  • Technical Ability: Advanced
  • Vehicle Recommendations: 35″ tires, two lockers, modified suspension, winch, roll cage
  • Elevated Hazard: Rolling down the side of the arroyo
  • Comment: This trail is just a very short steep loose climb up the side of the arroyo.  The rock is very loose shale type rock and does not provide much traction.  The entrance is a steep climb up a big rock which has been washed out from the summer rains, this will make it a little harder to get up into the trail.  The top of the trail is not very defined, as we’ve only ran it once, but once you get to the top look for the road to the left, also not very defined.  Then you can loop around back into the arroyo for more fun.

General Information:

  • This trail is located in Rattle Snake Canyon, in between La Luz and Tularosa.
  • Meet up location is on Sun Valley Road next to the Hughes Feed Store off of highway 54.
  • There is an air-down and parking area at the end of Sun Valley Road.
  • There are two gates you will need to go through to get into the arroyo, please close the gates behind you.
  • Once your in the arroyo the trail is on the left but you probably won’t find it unless you know where it is.  Look for the big rock that the blue Toyota is climbing in the first picture.
