  • Trail Length: Very Short 2.2 mile start to finish
  • Elevation: From 4827 to 5197 feet
  • Terrain Type: Sandy bottom arroyo going in with some 3 foot ledges, large rock gate keeper big rocky ledge then rocks and more ledges
  • Major Obstacles: There are two, the rocky ledge after the gate keeper and then the ledge that leans you into the rock wall
  • Technical Ability: Advanced to Expert
  • Vehicle Recommendations: Modified vehicle with at least 37″ tires, two lockers, good ground clearance and flexible suspension
  • Elevated Hazard: Potential for rollover and vehicle damage. Summer Monsoon season, rains can cause flash flooding, be extra careful in the summer.
  • Comment: This is a cool hard trail.  Getting to it is half the battle over the Triple Ledges.  The ledges and climbs look very daunting, but the tires grip and you go right up, most of the time.  I’ve been told there’s been plenty of carnage on this trail, with roll overs and broken parts.  This is not one to be taken lightly, you need to be locked front and rear and have a good suspension.  There is one spot I new would be trouble when I saw Chris go up it in the yellow Jeep.  How he didn’t hit the side of his Jeep I don’t know, but it proved impassable for the rest of us.  We had to climb the ledge right before it.

General Information:

  • This trail is located in Cottonwood trail area in La Luz.
  • Meet up location is the Shell gas station on the corner of Highway 82 and Florida Ave.  
  • You can get to the trail via Rattle Snake Canyon, the main area to get to this trail is in question (private property), I need look into it when I get a chance.
